♥Penang 161209-221209 [Day 3]
woke up at 10 plus cos of last night's incident...
the transport system in Penang is not as efficient as Singapore's. the bus stops not that visible on the streets, with only a zebre-coloured pole and a shelter. AND you will not know what are the buses available at the stops cos there are no number plate. so each time when we want to take a bus, we will flag any bus that passed by and asked the driver. If the driver said the bus can reach our destination, i'll asked him to call us when the stop reached. of all the trips we've made, every driver was very frenly. =)
if it's too confusing, you could take the bus from at bus interchange at komtar where ALL buses will go.
look at the pic from the bottom right. it shows all the exact roads that each and every bus will pass by. but these are only available at the komtar.
we planned to go to Lebuh Carnavon, where chinatown is. we read from reviews that there are nice roast duck and dim sum. after asking a number of ppl what are the buses to take to chinatown, we gave up. NONE of them knew. *faint* i think the system is alil' confusing to them too. haha. in the end we decided to walk there and asked for directions along the way. we really have to say that the people that we met in Penang were all very warm and frenly. =)) one of the reasons why i fell in love with Penang. hehe.
we reached the famous roast duck rice at ard 1230 and the stall was empty! just when we asked an uncle in the coffeeshop, the stall owner arrived. and... the duck rice uncle, together with his roast ducks, roast chickens and roast meat, arrived in his tiny motorcycle. look at the pic on the bottom left. the food were all hanging in the box tied to his backseat!!! *utterly stun* =O
we da-paoed half a duck with a few pieces of roast meat as the dim sum place would closing soon. the aunty who served us tea was very helpful when i asked her what can we drink cos mr chen was coughing. the dim sum wasnt as good as Zim Sum Restaurant in terms of quality, quantity and price. but the warmth and hospitality we got from the tea aunty and dim sum aunty, minus all the negatives. =) the tea aunty even offered us an umbrella, not thinking whether we would return to her or not. so nice.
it was a rainy day that day and with a small umbrella, the both of us were squeezing under it uncomfortably.
we headed to khoo kongsi after a few twists and turns along the way. like the tourist centre wasnt open etc. the entrance fee per person for khoo kongsi is RM5 with a postcard issued after payment.
it's a place with many beautiful engravings. we like =)
a guard helped us took a pic. we reckon it's after years of taking photos that she acquired such good skills. she even instructed us where to stand etc. hahaha.
it was drizzling and the sun yat sen place was closed. so we decided to go back. i insisted that we walked to our hotel. just becos i could see where our hotel was. hahahaha. it was quite a long walk back............ btw, thruout all the places, mr chen was carrying his fav roast duck as we couldnt find any suitable to eat.
we had our duck and rested in the room before going to queensbay mall. we wanted to take a cab there as it was quite a distance from Georgetown but the cabby offered RM38 so we decided to walk to komtar to take bus instead. it took as merely 30-45mins to reach the mall by bus.
anw, queensbay mall is the longest and largest mall in Penang. and it's also a place you should go if you wanna shop. it's the best shopping mall in Penang. hahaha. but we allocated only 2 hrs there.
we ended up having dinner at a jap restaurant, which i think is a waste cos we missed a chance of eating penang food. (not that the mall has, anw) but that's how we ended the day unexcitingly. hah.
