after a hearty breakfast, we proceeded to komtar to take bus to Butterworth, which is located at the mainland of Penang. Butterworth and Penang Island are linked by a Penang Bridge. the bridge is 13.5km long and is among the longest bridges in the world.
from the pics, you can see that Butterworth is more industrialised than Penang Island.
the purpose of us going to Butterworth was to have a look at what is this place all about. but... we were really disappointed. there wasnt much stuff to see along the way, unlike Penang Island where they are little shops and temples and stuff. so we went to two shopping malls at Butterworth and went back to Georgetown in the mid-noon.
the boyfren was craving for seafood, as usual so we decided to go Red Garden for dinner and explore what's nearby before dinner time.
I was really excited about going to Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion! but we couldnt walk into this place by ourselves, becos it's actaully converted into some sort like a breakfast-and-bed room for tourists. there are guided tours at 11am and 3pm daily and we missed it. so we went to a choc boutique to buy choc and spent alot of money there. the two of us are still sore about how much we spent cos we bought too much. haha.
dinner at Red Garden. the stringray was ok, but abit on the dry side. but the prawns were nice! plus... cheap! heh.
it was still early to end the night, so we went to komtar to watch 《十月围城》. the movie ended at ard 2330 and we walked back to the hotel at the fastest speed ever. hahaha.
btw, there was one incident that made the both of us very upset on the third day. we tabao a pkt of horlick at a coffeeshop nearby and the boss actually charged us RM3!
me: "uncle, how much?"
helper: "3 dollars."
me: "HUH? so expensive?!"
helper: "you guys from Singapore ar?" (so obvious that he wanted to cheat money liao)
me : "why? wanna to tok us isit?"
helper: "need to add milk so more expensive"
qifeng : "i previously bought two pkts elsewhere and costed only RM1.40 for a big pkt. yours is only like half a pkt. next time we dont buy here anymore." (first time see my man so man HAHA)
helper: "no choice. the boss said one. next time you buy elsewhere. dont buy here already. just gimme 2.50, but dont tell my boss."
come to think of it, we should have stood up and asked the boss. 但是人在异乡，又不希望伙计uncle难做，所以当时就心不甘、情不愿地把RM2.50交给uncle。在那个国家，竟被自己的同胞骗钱，真是心寒。
we went to this famous prawn mee stall at Macalister Road. they have moved from the original venue. luckily i insisted to search. if not we would settle for sth that might be not as nice as this. it costed only RM3 per bowl and we added baby lobsters （虾姑）, which they are famous for, an additional RM2. apparantly, the serving was not that enough for the big eater, he ordered another bowl with baby squids added. only RM1 with LOTSA squids! and... i have to mention that the young lady who served us was very frenly! cos we were confused with what to order initially and she helped us. i took the chance to wave bye to her when we left. =)
